Wow, do I have some neat news!
I wore my shirt to dinner last night and I got a compliment on it from our waitress. Geez, that made my night! She asked me where I got it. :D After two weeks of working on it, someone tells me that it's cute. Thanks Luanne! (Hopefully I got your spelling correct.) After we talked for a minute, I couldn't contain my excitement and gave her my card to visit this blog. She mentioned that she'd made a Halloween costume last year and I told her that I would love to see it. So cool!!
Well I'm not into switching gears right now since I have the supplies for my next project - Butterick skirt B4461. I chose the pattern during our 95° weather (it's 61° right now), but I'm still going to make it out of a lightweight cotton. If I want to wear it in the fall, I can wear some heavy tights. :) Sorry about the shadow on the photo. Hopefully you can get the idea from what I post.
Here's the fabric and trim options that I threw out. It'll be interesting to see what I come up with.
More cool stuff? I ordered a 3 month subscription to Burda Style magazine. It seems that's what many of the sewing blog gals read and sew, so I thought that I would give it a go. Each issue comes with 60 or so patterns, a size chart and a sewing course and step by step instructions. To say the truth, I am intimidated as heck, but I'm GOING FOR IT! It's sort of exciting at the same time. I seem to be driven to jump in and do things when I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. It stimulates my brain. I like working my brain. :D
All right, I had some things that I wanted to do today: 1) measure for our hoop house plastic (greenhouse) so I can get that ordered and 2) paint the trim on our windows of the house. (We'll see about this one!) Tonight, I plan on cutting the pattern out of B4461.
Until I post again...Happy Saturday to you!

I thought I commented on this, but maybe I didn't - or maybe you didn't approve it, LOL. Anyway, it's great that someone appreciated your blouse People do appreciate pretty and unique things.
I pretty much finished my pj top - just needs the neckband seam allowance to be trimmed and pressed. Very disappointing outcome. I did a straight stitch on the sleeve hems, stretching the fabric as I sewed, and they're puckery. The neckline band needed to be stretched to fit the bodice, as per the instructions, and it looks very so-so. And I went with size XL based on my measurements, even though I've always found the sewing pattern sizes to run large, and not surprising - it's rather large! Not sure about lessons learned from this project, except I don't think I would use that type of fabric again - a little bit too thin, and more stretchiness than needed. Maybe I'll post a photo.
Laura, you totally need a sewing blog! :) I don't know what I'm doing half the time, but I just don't give a rip anymore. So I post away. It's much more fun that way!!! LOL
I totally want to see your pj top. I've had puckers too and I love to iron the dickens out of the fabric. Hahaha... I have a hard time with fitting but I do believe it's something that comes in time. Here's a tip from one of my sewing books. McCall's and Simplicity run large through the upper chest (bottom of the armhole to the neckline). Choose your pattern according to high bust measurement to avoid a "frumpy"cut.
Vogue Today's Fit: choose pattern on full-bust and full-hip. They don't run large.
New Look is true to size.
Style patterns don't have a lot of ease - go larger (cut larger seam allowances).
Burda is body flattering European cut. True to measurement in sizing. Burda runs short in the crotch.
Stretch and Sew and Kwik Sew: based on realistic measurements. Measure the pattern pieces. I LOVE THIS pattern company. They are in Minnesota and give tours and such. I haven't been to one though. :(
Hopefully I said something that helps ya out with patterns. Right now, I'm learning to measure the patterns. It's fun, but time consuming. I go in little increments.
